About SCNU

Sickle Cell Network Uganda (SCNU) is a Non-Government Organization, which started in October 2013 to raise awareness of sickle cell disease, its effects to the economic, social and psychological being of people and how to reduce the number of children being born with it.

SCNU aims at empowering people living with sickle cell disease, their parents, guardians and caregivers. Sickle Cell Network Uganda (SCNU) rose out of a need to reduce stigmatization of people living with sickle cell disease, provision of management techniques and reducing the number of children being born with sickle cell disease. Sickle Cell Network Uganda has membership of people living with sickle cell disease, parents, guardians, caregivers interested in the breaking the sickle cell cycle.

To engage communities in promoting sickle cell disease awareness, reduce stigmatization of people living with sickle cell disease in communities, encourage and educate families, guardians and care givers on how to care for people with Sickle cell disease as we work hand in hand with leaders in villages, schools, worship places, health centres and children’s, homes.

Our Team

Evelyn Mwesigwa

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

She is a mother to a son with sickle cell disease. She has dedicated her time and effort on making people aware of the disease and equiping them with knowledge on how to minimise its impact.

Cissy Birabwa

SECRETARY

She is a specialist in organization studies and has spent most of her productive years working with communities. She holds a Master in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies from Makerere University.
